It's official “La Somnambule”, this short story of 10 plates which was realized by Amokis at the same time as “Le Vagabond des Nimbes”, will be added as a bonus at the end of the book. You can see some images at the end of this section and at the end of the “About the project owner” part.

« Le Vagabond des Nimbes » is an atypical comic originally published in 2001 in black and white as a hand-crafted photocopied fanzine. Throughout its pages, you follow the journeys of a wandering warrior and the strange bird that accompanies him, through a nebulous universe populated by fantastical creatures. In this world where reality and illusion merge, the most threatening encounters are not always tangible...

Superbly pen-and-ink drawn by Amokis Brarlaka, the story is like a waking dream, a plunge into the meanders of their authors' subconscious... and of the readers who dare to venture there.

!!! WARNING !!! This is neither a sequel nor a parody of Christian Godard and Julio Ribera's serie « Le Vagabond des Limbes » (with an "L") ! To find out more about this title, follow the little star*...

This album is an entirely original creation, in the style of the golden age of fantasy comics. Particularly for those with a taste for nostalgia, but not only, it aim at all explorers of dreams and imaginary worlds, from 14 to 114 years old... It is the fruit of a collaboration between Amokis and I, and a bit of our « youthful indiscretion »... We're running this campaign to bring it out of the shadows, and share it with you !

We are currently colouring the 80 plates that make up the book, with a view to self-publishing and printing it...

One of its special features is that the narration is completely silent. This gives the story a strange and enigmatic atmosphere. Prefaces and postfaces may be bilingual. Depending on orders, preface and afterword may be bilingual or trilingual.

Original plates
The metal figurine of the hero is a mini-production of our own. We had a lot of fun sculpting with a magnifying glass and casting in tin. In 28 mm format (D&D role-playing game type), It's the one on the left in the picture. The other, a well-known classic among D&D players, is just there for scale. Mind you, it's very small ! It's exactly 35 mm from the soles to the top of the skull. Don't ask me why it's commonly called “28 mm”... maybe have they calibrated the scale on the dwarf race ? 🙃

* Why this title?

Apart from the title, and a few similarities between the two characters (both dark-haired males), the resemblance with « Le Vagabond des Limbes » ends here... our story and universe in which evolves our hero have nothing in common with Christian Godard's famous comics magnificently illustrated by Julio Ribera.

We had thought of changing this title for more convenience (and to avoid getting into unnecessary trouble !), but I finally managed to contact Mr Godard and the widow of the late Mr Ribera, rights holders of « Le Vagabond des Limbes », who both kindly gave me permission to keep our original title. We would like to thank them warmly for their understanding and their solidarity with other artists.

You might say... A title is just a title... Why did you stick to it ?

Firstly and most simply, not to betray the muses, and because it's about the journeys of a warrior wandering through a nebulous world... a world of « nimbus ».

But also because, although it's neither a plagiarism nor a parody... it may have a little something to do with the « Le Vagabond des Limbes » which, although we don't remember it (it's been 25 years!), we've inevitably seen the fascinating covers of on the shelves of bookshops. The title must have remained subconsciously engraved in some corner of our memories, only to reappear in the form of our own title. So it wasn't a question of taking advantage of « Le Vagabond des Limbes », nor of course of overshadowing it !

So this comic is firmly rooted in its time. Moreover, there are other inspirations for other comics, more or less calculated or involuntary, in its pages. For example the copies of « Métal Hurlant » on the ground in the first panel of the first page ; or the black bird that accompanies the hero like Snowy accompanies Tintin, and which strangely looks like the shadow of Moebius's « Deepo » in « l'incal ».
Although partly unintentional, not necessarily obvious to novices, & sometimes a little cheeky, these nostalgic allusions are as a tribute to vintage comics... our « Vagabond des Nimbes » is also, in a way, the vagabond of the comic bookshops of the 80s and 90s... This is not it's main purpose, but participate of its charm !
