INK IS MY BLOOD - VOLUME FIVE

My primary intention with this new chapter of Ink is my Blood remains the same as when I started this almost five years ago : to share with you.

I discovered that showing my work is more important than I imagined. I want to do that in an unadulterated and uncensored way, through a magnificent and sensual object that fits well in your hand and allows you to taste every single detail that might have escaped your attention on a phone screen.

And I feel that these books are more needed than ever, as since I started posting my work, censorship has not stopped increasing and imposing stricter rules. Like many other talented artists, it is getting harder and harder for me to present most of my drawings on social media in their entirety or without mutilating them.

I speak with a visual language and I am in awe of all artists who do likewise. I know from my own experience how hard it is to master the challenges of that particular skill. This is why I was deeply honoured that Anthony Byrne, acclaimed film director of Peaky Blinders and In Darkness, accepted my invitation to write a foreword.

With the unfailing insight of those who think with and live through images, Anthony went straight to the heart of my ink and in his words, I recognise the disturbing echo of the tortuous path that each of my drawings takes me through. Inviting this book into your home is maybe not only a liberating act against censorship, but also a way to look inside yourself and be freed by what you see there.

Thank you Anthony for this act of true camaraderie - I hope I can return the favour soon.
